Dr. Roger Howsley has had his work cut out for him this past year as the director of the World Institute for Nuclear Security-meeting with nuclear companies, trying to convince them, and government officials, that working together on an international basis to ensure the best possible security at nuclear facilities would benefit everyone. Now, as the organization celebrates its first anniversary, "things are finally gelling," he told NW&MMonitor Sept. 11 in London just days before he traveled to Vienna for the International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference. "What we're trying to do is complicated. In the banking world, the banking community comes together to eliminate fraud. It's not a competitive thing because they all stand to gain," he said. "We're hoping to apply this principle in the nuclear industry with regard to nuclear security."
