Three PWR vendors vie for contract

Bids from vendors in three different countries for four new nuclear power reactors have been submitted to Chinese authorities and are under consideration. Three pressurized water re-actor vendors—U.S.-based West-inghouse, France's Areva, and Russia's AtomStroyExport—have submitted bids to build four power reactors in China. The bids, which were submitted at a ceremony in Beijing on February 27, were accepted by Chen Zhaobo, head of the Preparatory Office of the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation, who said he expects to announce the successful bidder within the year. Two of the four units will be located at Yangjiang, in the southern province of Guangdong, and the other two at Sanmen, in eastern China's Zhejiang Province.
