摘要

About a third of the way through his State of the Union address on January 27, President Barack Oba-ma called for the construction of "a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants in this country." No speech has ever started a building boom, and this one won't either, but the fact that Obama said this before getting around to other energy options drew about as much attention in the general news media as did his principal focus on job creation, his effort to revive health care reform, and his criticism of the Supreme Court's decision to loosen restrictions on political campaign contributions.
