Wylfa-2 closure leaves Unit I as the last Magnox

On April 25, after 41 years of service, Unit 2 of the Wylfa Magnox power plant stopped generating electricity, leaving its twin unit, Wylfa-1, as the sole operating Magnox reactor. The closure occurred five days earlier than planned, as an operating issue required that the reactor be shut down, and since so few days remained before what was to be the official closure, the decision was made not to restart the reactor. Located on the island of Anglesey in Wales, the reactor was first connected to the grid in 1971 and has produced over 224 TWh of electricity in its lifetime.
