Ron Jones: The Summer construction project

As vice president of new nuclear operations for South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), Ron Jones leads the team that is tasked with the construction and operational readiness of the two Westing-house AP1000 reactors being built at the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, near Parr, S.C. It's a sizable responsibility, but then Jones has been filling positions of increased responsibility in the nuclear industry for over three decades. Jones came to SCE&G in 2012 from Duke Power, where he began his career in 1980 as an engineer at the Catawba nuclear plant. He was named manager of maintenance engineering in 1988 and superintendent of instrument and electrical in 1991. He subsequently served as superintendent of operations at McGuire, station manager at Catawba and Oconee, and vice president at Oconee. In 2005, he became senior vice president of nuclear operations for Duke, a position in which he oversaw operations at the Catawba, McGuire, and Oconee plants and was responsible for corporate nuclear engineering and plant support groups. His last position at Duke before joining SCE&G was as senior vice president of nuclear development. In addition to being a longtime member of the American Nuclear Society, Jones is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Nuclear Energy Institute's New Plant Working Group, and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations' New Plant Development Executive Group. He is also a past chairman of the Pressurized Water Reactors Owners Group's Executive Management Group and Executive Committee and a past chairman of the Car-olinas Nuclear Cluster. He chaired the Appendix J Program Owners Group as well, an industry organization formed to collaborate on and develop generic products for new nuclear projects, and the Electric Power Research Institute's Advanced Nuclear Technology Committee.
