The Arctic region has tremendous natural riches. It is estimated that there are around 90 billion barrels of oil there, which is equal to 5.9% of the world's known oil reserves. According to the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Arctic accumulates a large portion of the global gold, oil and gas reserves estimated at around $30 trillion. It also holds abundant deposits of nickel, copper, uranium, tungsten, and diamonds, etc.
