Lessons from Japan

Back in March 2011, a group of leading UK nuclear industry representatives visited Japan in search of knowledge about what the Japanese nuclear industry was doing and best practice that could be promoted in the UK. Japan was at the time the second-largest nuclear operator in the world with 54 operating reactors and an impressive and comprehensive range of capabilities throughout the complete life-cycle. Japan is also recognised as having some of the most efficient nuclear construction programmes in the world and had at the time four in construction, with an aim to have seven new plants in operation by 2020 and a further 14 by 2030.
