UK regulators asked to begin GDA for UK version of China's 'Hualong One'

UK nuclear regulators have been asked to begin the generic design assessment (GDA) process for a UK version of China's HPR1000 'Hualong One' nuclear technology. China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) and EDF of France submitted a joint application to the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in October 2016 to begin the GDA process for a UK version of the HPR 1000, a 1,000-MW pressurised water reactor. The reference plant for the design is CGN's Fangchenggang-3 in China, which is under construction.
