In an industry which is scrutinised and analysed at the highest level, the role of chief nuclear inspector can't always be easy. But that hasn't stopped Mark Foy, the regulatory head of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), from taking bold steps, not least authoring a new annual report on the performance of the sector. "I was appointed as the Chief Nuclear Inspector two years ago," he says. "When I took up the post I saw an opportunity to improve and strengthen our transparency and how we communicate our view on the safety, security and safeguards performance of the nuclear industry to the public, government and other stakeholders and, indeed, to the industry itself.
