LAWYERING THE TRUTH

Hillary rodham clinton is a congenital fudger. And so is her husband. Their tendency to lawyer the truth has been manifest since the very earliest stages of their public lives (and, in the president's case, way before). But does their lawyering, fudging, misdirection, obfuscation and generally slouchy behavior merit the less euphemistic treatment mainstreamed by New York Times columnist William Safire last week? Are they flat-out liars? It's not impossible. Are they crooks? Not on the basis of what we've seen so far. Are they hiding something? Undoubtedly.
