Nobody likes business conferences, and ordinarily that would include Monica Ordway, a pediatric nurse-practitioner in Waterbury, Conn. But faced with a recent weekend conference in Florida, Ordway went online, looking for deals. In a few hours she found so many low-priced Web discounts on air fare, rental cars and hotels that she was able to turn the weekend convention into a weeklong vacation for herself and her husband-at no extra cost. "I knew if we went online and looked for some good deals, our savings could be put toward really enjoying a trip," says Ordway, who frequently scans online travel sites looking for spur-of-the moment trips. "The Internet has given me the option of looking for good deals all the time," she says.
