THREE SCHOOLS THAT DO MORE WITH LESS

It's no secret that schools in poor neighborhoods often struggle. But some achieve a remarkable amount in relation to the wealth of their communities. Newsweek calls these Transformative Schools, and for the second year in a row, we have created a list of the top 25.Three of those are part of the Uplift Education chain of charter schools in north Texas, and serve some of the poorest children in the state. Their students are mostly Hispanic and at least 80 percent of them will be the first in their families to attend college. Some work 20 hours a week to help their families afford food.
