摘要

Of all the animals introduced to New Zealand by Pakeha settlers the most important, economically, was the sheep. In mid-19th century conditions wool was the ideal export for a colony half-a-world away from its mother country. Wool was not subject to deterioration during its long voyage to market and its value was sufficient to meet the cost of transport.
