I was very interested in Barry Brickell's letter in Observer 310 and his comments regarding rail buckles and continuous welded rail track (CWR), some of which comments he also makes in his fascinating and inspirational book about the Driving Creek Railway. I have had over half a lifetime's experience with installation and maintenance of CWR track, and perhaps can share some of this as part of stimulating some railway engineering interest as Barry calls for.
