From The Collection of... G.E. Arundel

Continuing the theme of featuring images from our photographic archive situated at the Thomas McGavin building at Petone, in this issue we draw on the Arundel collection. Born in Australia and apprenticed in England, George Arundel was a ship's engineer who travelled the world with his camera. George Arundel took the opportunity to photograph items of railway interest during his stops at ports around New Zealand. These early NZ images resided undiscovered in Australia until his death. They were ultimately made available to the NZRLS archive through the good work of both Bruce Macdonald and Peter Mellor.
