I was a bit surprised to see one of my photographs in the latest Observer (issue 321 page 125), and more surprised that Tranzrail had originally provided the photograph. The photograph was taken by me. The photograph shows the first locomotive being lifted onto the bridge spans. At that stage the locomotives were not going to be started but winched into the ship. The bridge span was built on a slight down grade towards the ship and unfortunately the handbrake on the first locomotive didn't work. Once the ship winch started pulling the locomotive it started rolling faster and only the quick action of one the shipyard workers, who uncoupled the rope saved the locomotive from ripping the track from the top of the bridge span. The locomotive rolled out of control into the ship.
