New Projects for Industrial Science and Technology R&D Program FY 1996: Human Media Project

摘要

This section describes various R&D projects being carried out in Japan on a national scale. Present information processing technology, which is the foundation of our information-oriented society, is based on "man approaching the machine and utilizing systems in con-formance with the machine conditions." This limitation is obstructing the expansion of user strata and the diversification of utilization modes. The technical and industrial realization of an advanced information-oriented society in the early 21st century will require expansion of the use of machines into general households by establishing technologies in which "the machine approaches man." This will require the establishment of a "human-initiative type information processing technology" conforming to the subjective characteristics of individual users with very diversified methods of sensing and understanding, interests, and knowledge of various fields.
