Fuji Ultrasonic Engineering Co., Ltd. has commercialized a compact vibratory cutting and milling system available in Daktyloi FUM-1, Model 1003, that is an application of the torsional vibrations of ultrasonic waves. The product is available in the compact hole-drilling specifications (rotary type or non-rotary type) and in the compact milling specifications, on the premise of mounting these systems onto compact precision machines, and feature sizes which are only one-third to one-half those of conventional types. The blade tip has an ultrasonic torsional vibration of 27kHz, by which the cutting resistance is decreased considerably, so that the out of roundness and surface roughness are improved, the machining time shortened, the generation of burrs suppressed and the tool service lives prolonged, all of which enable substantial productivity improvement in the hole drilling of compact precision products as well as in tapping and grinding operations.
