Sugino Machine Ltd. has developed two new types of innovative tools, Superoll level that is applicable to flat surfaces for the first time for compressing metal surfaces into mirror surfaces, and Superoll slim that is usable by compact machining centers (MCs). Superoll level is a roller burnishing tool to compress the flat surfaces of flat and end surfaces of metal parts with rollers for plastic deformation to provide a mirror finish. The tool is shifted laterally along the machining surface while revolving in the same manner as frontal face milling, and several rollers are compressed against and rolled along metal surfaces to finish these surfaces into smooth mirror flat surfaces. Ry 0.1μrn - 0.8um mirror finishing is accomplished in a short period of time, which reduces machining costs substantially.
