Fizzy or carbonated water is heavier - that is, denser - than non-carbonated water if the carbon dioxide is in solution rather than forming bubbles. For a given weight of water and dissolved CO_2, the volume can be calculated by adding the volume of the water alone (about 1 millilitre per gram of water) to that of the gas (about 0.8 millilitres for each gram of CO_2).
