1.The creature is the larva of a fly in the family Stratiomyidae, commonly known as soldier flies. This is apparent because it has a defined tail and head but no legs, which is typical of a true fly. The larvae feed off decaying plant material or animal faeces. This larva is quite big and so will belong to one of the larger species, possibly Stratiomys potamida, which have larvae up to 50 millimetres long. The flies in this genus are often wasp mimics.
