Conax, the conditional-access provider, is investigating "rumours" on internet hacking websites that its encryption for Nordic pay-television operator Canal Digital has been breached. Conax, which like Canal Digital is ultimately owned by Nordic telecommunications company Telenor, this week said that it continued to assess whether its conditional access had been hacked using a so-called Diablo conditional-access module (CAM). Such devices are used by hackers throughout Europe to access illegally some pay-television channels and are programmed to watch services from a number of different operators.
