In 2012, civil engineering was put on the world stage, not least through die delivery of the Olympics. We showed the world we can rise to the challenge, but die challenge does not end there - we must ensure our infrastructure meets the demands of a growing population, a changing climate and keeps us in the global race: transport, energy, water supply; these are all key. But above all we must attract, inspire and retain the next generation of engineers, for we can't just expect them to appear by osmosis.
