Energy firm EDF is hoping its landmark Hinkley Point C project in Somerset will provide a blueprint for the proposed Sizewell C nuclear power station in Suffolk. The plans include two reactors which the company says would be capable of generating enough low carbon electricity to supply more than 6M homes. They could also produce around 9M.t fewer carbon emissions each year compared to an equivalent gas-fired power station. The project is planned for the Suffolk coast at the site of EDF's Sizewell B nuclear power plant and is an almost identical replica of Hinkley Point C. "Going from Hinkley to Sizewell, we're not just copying the design, we're replicating significant chunks of the supply chain because that supply chain has learned how to go to work in this environment," explains Laing O'Rourke civil programme director Sarah Williamson, who is seconded to Sizewell C.
