Indonesian Navy shows off first fruits from collaboration

Damen Shipyards Group and its partner PT PAL have completed the installation of combat systems aboard the KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (331), the first of the Indonesian Navy's SIGMA 10514 PKR (Perusak Kawal Rudal) guided missile frigates. The PKR assets are being constructed through a collaborative modular process simultaneously at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) in the Netherlands and PT PAL shipyard in Indonesia. This methodology enables Damen to fulfil its contractual commitment to the Indonesian MoD to deliver an extensive knowledge and technology transfer programme, with the combat installation and testing phase of the PKR construction forming part of this transfer programme. According to Damen Shipyards Group, the combat system sea acceptance trials onboard the KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata were carried out over a three-week period during which the electronic warfare suite was also tested by Thales. This suite consists of two mai n systems: an electronic support measure (ESM with passive radar receiver) enabling the combatant to record and interpret the various radar signals it receives from the operational environment and an electronic counter measure (ECM) jamming system. These trials were followed by structural firing tests and the alignment of the ship's sensors and guns, accomplished with the support of Rheinmetall. Additionally, MBDA France was responsible for testing the frigate's Exocet surface-to-surface missile system. The second PKR frigate is scheduled to undergo the same installations and testing up to February this year and is expected to be completed at the end of April.
