He American Sbociety of Naval Enginecrs was created in 1888 as U.S.naval technology turned from sail to steam. The Society was iormed in the interest of publishing a journal 'to organize, with the object of printing the results of experiments, records of trial trips, breakdowns, etc., of ships of the Navy, and also tor the purpose ot reading papers and discussing the debatable subjects of naval engineering."
