SECRETARY'S NOTES

One of the highlights of ASNE Day each year is the opportunity to recognize a number of individuals for exceptional performance in various aspects of our profession through presentation of the Society's annual awards. I always find it encouraging to gain insight into the tremendous amount of talent and dedication within our profession, as represented by our award winners. Each year the outstanding achievements of the people we recognize give us reason to take great pride in the vital contributions that naval engineers make to the capability and readiness of our Nation's sea services. I'm often asked, where do we find such extraordinary people who receive your awards? The answer is that people like you find them for us. We depend on people and organizations that are members and supporters of the Society to submit nominations for those they believe deserve to be recognized by ASNE awards. If you know someone you think should be considered for an award, now is the time to nominate them. Nominations for the 2014 awards are due by 15 November. Nominations are needed for the following awards: 1. The ASNE Gold Medal Award for a singular achievement in naval engineering 2. The Solberg Award for naval engineering research 3. The Harold E. Saunders Award for lifetime achievement 4. The Frank G. Law Award for service to ASNE 5. The Claud A.Jones Award for fleet engineering 6. The Frank C. Jones Award for intermediate and depot level maintenance and modernization 7. The Rosenblatt "Young Naval Engineer" Award 8. The Clifford G.
