ASNE Central Gulf Coast Section Focuses on Student Outreach

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Central Gulf Coast Section has been working hard to support the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) students at the University of New Orleans (UNO). In March 2018, the Section leadership was approached by Cospolich Refrigeration for a potential corporate sponsorship. The primary goal was to increase the involvement of student members at ASNE events. After discussing various avenues for support, Cospolich generously donated $250 for a student round table and $300 in Student Section support.A naval architecture round table was held on May 3, 2018 at the University of New Orleans. The casual event was well attended by 26 NAME students. Po'boys and refreshments were catered, courtesy of the sponsorship by Cospolich Refrigeration. Industry leaders from MiNo Marine, Gibbs & Cox, Cospolich Refrigeration, Bollinger Shipyards, and Moore Consulting entertained small groups of students for 20 minutes at a time with professional advice and Q&A. Discussion topics ranged from the importance of Professional Engineering licen-sure to the future of the NAME field. The event was a huge success and feedback collected from attendees was very positive.
