Ecomodels On Trial For years there has been a mismatch between the conclusions arrived at by ecologists observing whole natural systems, and those obtained from the experimental study of laboratory models. One focus of disagreement has been the extent to which species biodiversity determines ecosystem robustness. A resolution to this stand-off is vital if ecologists are to provide conservationists with the information they need to manage at-risk ecosystems.
