President Barack Obama proposed budget cuts to numerous ecosystem restoration projects in his fiscal 2015 budget, including EPA's Gulf of Mexico program and Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. While restoration advocates are unhappy about the cuts, other programs escaped the tightening budget: the Puget Sound program's budget will see no change, while the EPA-led Chesapeake Bay program will have a $3-mil-lion budget increase. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Louisiana Coastal Area project will receive its first round of funding in 2015, while the Corps' Everglades projects will see a 23% cut over last year's budget.
