Survey: ChalleNGe Program Helps Youth Help Themselves

A survey of participants in the National Guard ChalleNGe Program has proven what most believed of the effort to put high school dropouts on a path toward success. It works. The review done by the nonprofit research group MDRC compared young people who had been accepted into ChalleNGe with those who had applied for the program, but were not accepted. The latter group became the control group. MDRC surveyed the young people three years after they applied to ChalleNGe. In all, 1,200 young people were included in the study.
