As the National Association of Multicultural Education and its companion journal Multicultural Perspectives are committed to equity, inclusion, diversity, and justice in schooling, this review of Dr. Carol Anderson's book White Rage furthers the association and journal's ideals. In this review we discuss Anderson's successful crafting of a historical description of an arduous j ourney toward Black equality in the United States. At every turn along this journey Black progress has been vehemently resisted, often by the very people charged with representing the U.S. populace. In a political moment when equality faces heightened attack, the first and most important step is an honest accounting of history often omitted from history books. Only by first recognizing this history can we move forward in our cross-disciplinary work toward social justice.
