Tedesco: Professor Marcus, first question goes back to the beginning...how did you become interested in the marine industry and what made you decide to pursue an education at Webb Institute of Naval Architecture? MARCUS: In high school, I was interested in math and science and I enjoyed sailing. I naively thought that studying naval architecture probably had something to do with designing sailboats. My guidance counselor in high school told me about Webb and by the time I figured out that there wasn't a lot of connection between designing sailboats and a bachelor's in naval architecture and marine engineering, I was already fascinated with commercial ships.
