Southern California Landfill Operator Plays a Big Role in Cleaning the Air

Complex regulations require complex solutions. Heavy-duty on- and off-road diesel trucks in California are faced with aggressive regulations to reduce emissions of toxic diesel PM and NO_x emissions. The purpose of these regulations is to meet health standards statewide and also help regions of the state, such as the SCAB, in attaining NAAQS. LACSD was able to provide the landfill and the vehicles that operate there as a living laboratory to test the complex emission control devices that could achieve the goals developed as part of these regulations.
