Intern Carlos Lago spent a few days in the SE-R and devised "a list of things you can do to make it feel like a better car." Lago's list: "(1) Use the CVT transmission as you would an auto-clutch manual-set the gearshift to manual mode and allow your fingers to play with the steering-wheel-mounted paddles, which shortens the tranny's somewhat languid response time. (2) Don't obsess over the interior's shortcomings-the plastics aren't as rich as those in some competitors, and the orange-yellowish glow from the dash is not exactly cheery. (3) Assure yourself that the SE-R's lack of a clutch pedal makes it a wiser and more gridlock-friendly alternative to, say, the quicker and racier Honda Civic Si sedan."
