Ship Completions to Set New Peak in 2011

With end-2011 approaching, it is clear that new vessel completions are set to exceed 2010 volumes and thus register a 13th successive annual increase. Last year, completions rose by 33.2 mdwt (+28.1%) from 2009's figure, mainly due to vastly greater bulker deliveries. These surged from 43.1 mdwt (itself an annual record for this ship type) in 2009 to 79.5mdwt. By contrast, completions of oil tankers actually fell slightly from the previous year, dropping from 48.9 to 42.3mdwt.
