Capesizes Remain Weakest Sector

Capesize rates remained depressed as the weight of newbuilding arrivals prevented any sustained upturn in rates. The average of the 4 Capesize TCs currently stands at $7,754/ day, a small improvement of $1,000/day on the month-ago rate. The Cape average has now been below its Handysize equivalent on every single trading day since 11 March. Moreover, Capesize earnings have - with the exception of the first week of January - spent the whole of 2011 below the average of the 6 Supramax TCs.
