March saw over 30 bulk carrier transactions reported, with the Panamax and Handymax sectors the most active. The only Cape sale was that of the "Cape Azalea" (171,846dwt, bit 1996, NKK) for US$23m to Greek buyers, the price representing a fall on last done. In the Kamsarmax sector, the "Abeille" (82,300dwt, bit 2010, Tsu Zhoushan) was sold for US$42.6m including a 15-16 month T/C at US$21,000/ day. The "Erica" (83,690dwt, bit 2009, Sanoyas) was sold at US$39.9m to Greek interests. Both these represent firm prices and many market observers would have expected levels to be weaker, given the backdrop of a soft freight market and continuing high newbuilding deliveries.
