There was not an immense amount of spot fixing on the USG/Far East route, chiefly because once contractual nominations were processed, most owners had little space with which to flirt with the spot market. Styrene demand shrivelled once news broke of a plant breakdown in the USG, but ships that were cancelled soon replaced any styrene fixtures with cargoes such as EDC, PX and ethanol. Rates rose through the month by $3-4/t.
