摘要

A huge response to my recent piece about the all too-frequent use of buses for rail replacement services, and lots of travel-weary stories from you about said buses not turning up, being filthy when they do, with no railway staff accompanying them, and in the charge of drivers who often haven't a clue where stations are. As I have highlighted before, readers are also concerned that replacement bus services do not accept prams or pushchairs, make no provision for the disabled, and are often free in the sense that tickets are seldom checked. Over the recent May Bank Holiday, when yet more rail services were due to be replaced by buses, Passenger Focus again called for passengers to be kept on trains during engineering work, with buses only being used as a last resort.
