20 Class 60s could be overhauled

DB Schenker is to evaluate the costs needed to overhaul Class 60s, and if the figures prove acceptable, 'between 15 and 20' could be given the equivalent of a full classified overhaul. No 60007 looks likely to be the first loco to be overhauled and the cost of the work will be scrutinised by the German company to see how much it will be to overhaul more of the locos and to what standard. DBS had been trying to eradicate use of the heavy haulage Class 60s under the Keith Heller regime because the locos, built in 1989-93 by Brush at Loughborough, were overdue expensive overhauls. However as some heavy trains were only suited to Class 60 haulage and this led to some reduced loads or the need to use double-headed Class 66s.
