Freight chord plans submitted

Network Rail has submitted its plans for the Ipswich and North Doncaster chords to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC). The IPC, set up by the Labour government, requires sharp focus on early consultation with the local public and stakeholders; although it will be replaced shortly, its successor will require a similar approach. The £41 million Ipswich chord proposal is a 1 km double track line just north of Ipswich goods yard, linking the East Suffolk line and Great Eastern main line. The chord will increase capacity on the cross-country route from the port of Felixstowe to the Midlands.
