DFDS Logistics 'liner' trains between Waterfor d Port and Ballina in the north west of Ireland re-started operation on 4 March.The service originally started in 2004 and operated for a short while befor e recommencing in earnest in 2006 until July 2012, when services were suspended on a temporary basis due to changes in shipping schedules. The re-launched service provides a cost-effective alternative to road transport for County Mayo businesses wishing to import or export containers through Waterfor d, as it is timed to connect with DFDS sailings to and from Rotterdam. Loaded trains depart from the busy larnrod Eireann freight yard in Ballina at 11.05 on Tuesdays and Fridays and the return services leave from Waterfor d Port on Mondays and Thursdays at 11.30.
