BALFOUR BEATTY FOR DUNDEE STATION REVAMP

The contract for major redevelopment of Dundee station is set to be awarded to Balfour Beatty. The company's £28 million bid was the lowest cost tender for the project and received a higher quality score than a competing bid from BAM. Four companies were originally invited to tender from the work, but two subsequently withdrew. The initial bids from both BAM and Balfour Beatty, received in March this year, did not comply with the contract specification, and so both companies were asked to resubmit. The report to Dundee City Council's Policy and Resources committee noted that'the limited number of contractors tendering has had a considerable effect on the overall tender price', which is £7 million higher than the pre-tender estimate by consultant Jacobs.
