Passenger ridership - varied fortunes

Back in the July 2003 'Informed Sources' I deconstructed the '50% more freight traffic since privatisation' statistic and made some interesting discoveries. But what about the similar claims for passenger traffic, including the highest volumes since nationalisation? Well, since this is Modern Railways, here is a graph of passenger ridership over then last 20 years. But rather than the global figure, it shows the performance of the three classic sectors - London & SouthEast, Regional Railways and Inter-City. And very illuminating it is too, especially for those who think of 1994 as 'Year Zero'.
