The problem with standing on a soap box is that eventually someone will want to kick it out from under you. The problem is worse if they tie a rope around your neck beforehand. Now you wouldn't think I'd ever find myself in that situation spouting off about something as non-controversial as materials handling. Think again. In our April issue, on this very soap box, I likened achieving materials handling excellence to one of those processes that most people don't want to know about but enjoy the end result nevertheless. The analogy I used was sausage making. Who'd get mad at that-other than the one being made into sausage? I figured, pigs aren't part of this magazine's circulation, so I'm safe.'
