This instalment finishes my description of modifying my Unimat SL 1000 to perform as a conventional screw cutting lathe. As always, I have only commented on method and sequence of specific operations. I hope you have enjoyed the series and that it has inspired the users of this and similar small lathes. The tumbler gear included in the modified lathe is conventional in design and operation, but its location after the gear train, instead of before and driving the gear train, is unconventional. Figure 31 indicates the general assembly of all tumbler and leadscrew extension components to the drive shaft rear bearing with photo 25 showing the assembly mounted on the lathe.
