The current local government reorganisation process is being 'rushed through in a pandemic,' a shadow minister has said. A consultation seeking views on reorganisation proposals covering Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Somerset closed this week. Shadow Cabinet Office minister Cat Smith, who has backed the proposal for a new unitary around Morecambe Bay, said the consultation on reorganisation plans was 'poorly designed' and 'no way to make a decision of this magnitude'.
