Councils must be 'held to account' for widespread failures in support for missing looked-after children, inspectors have said. In a damning report, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) told the Government it must scale up its scrutiny of councils locating children far from home. HMIC warned children looked after by councils that went missing from their placements were 'particularly vulnerable' to sexual exploitation. Young people placed in new local authority areas were also highlighted as being at' significant risk' of going missing.
