Maidstone BC and Kent CC have bought a former Royal Mail site to kick-start a regeneration scheme in the town. According to a joint statement by the two local authorities, the 3.5-acre mail centre and delivery office, near Maidstone East railway station, will be 'key to unlocking the potential transformation' of the area. The councils will now jointly produce a masterplan for the development of the site, which is expected to take between three and five years to complete. 'The area has been an eyesore for a number of years,' said Maidstone BC leader, Cllr Fran Wilson. 'Working together we can create something that residents will be proud of and which will bring the jobs and homes that the town needs.'
